When Life Does Not Make Sense

One plus one equals to…? Two! Of course the answer is two but sometimes in life one plus one may not add up to two. What do I mean?

Think about someone who put in all his times and efforts only to see another got promoted in work. Think about someone who sacrificed so much for the family but only to find their spouse walk out of their marriage. Think about someone who is disciplined, never stop exercising, eating the right food but yet suffered some serious illness.

Think about those adversities, misfortunes and unfair treatments that often left you wonder WHY? I know that feeling….angry, frustrated and injustice! Does life make sense when misfortunes happen to good people? When the arrogant got promoted and rises super fast? When the wicked prospers? Hello God, are you still in control?

Can you find anything like that in the bible? Yes, think about Abraham and Sarah who was well in advance in age waited so long for the birth of Isaac. Think about Joseph who was sold to Egypt, being accused by Potiphar’s wife, was sent to jail for the wrong he did not committed. Think about Job who was righteous and blameless but yet suffered terribly in the hand of Satan. Does life make sense?

The Psalmist (Asaph) expresses accurately in Psalm 73:3-13,

For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. They are free from the burdens common to man; they are not plagued by human ills. Therefore pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence. From their callous hearts comes iniquity; the evil conceits of their minds know no limits. They scoff, and speak with malice; in their arrogance they threaten oppression. Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth. Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. They say, “How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?” This is what the wicked are like— always carefree, they increase in wealth.

When one plus one does not add up to two, when life doesn’t make sense, when all the misfortunes fallen on you, when you have been victimized, when you have been treated unfairly, when you have been accused wrongly…

Please do not ask WHY! There are things that you can comprehend and there are things that you cannot understand. You just need to accept this fact. We are tempted to ask why, trying to find the answer but often left disappointed. The word WHY will cause you more frustrated. Such questioning will make you think that God does not love you anymore! Remember the devil will make you doubt on God’s love.

But nothing is further than the truth; God loves you more than anyone else. But you may ask why such thing happens. That is why I said don’t ask WHY. Ask HOW?

Instead of asking WHY, you should be asking HOW, how can I cope? How can I trust God? How can I overcome these challenges? How can I control my emotion? How can I turn this stumbling-stone into stepping-stone? HOW? HOW? HOW?

When you start to ask HOW, you put yourself in a position to depend on God. Instead of being angry with God, now you are depending on his strength, wisdom, and grace. With such a state of mind, I believe you can now face anything. Come, whatever come, God is with me, and I can face all things simply because God is with me, amen.

What about the WHY? The best way to due with it is to keep a file of all the WHY(s). You need to accept the fact that not everything in life you are able to understand. God’s way is higher than our way; God’s thought is higher than our thought. If God reveals, thank God. If he didn’t, keep it in a file and bring it to heaven. By then, you will have all the answers.

But now, instead of being gloomy, frustrated, disappointed, discouraged and unhappy, why not take a bath, wash your face, comb your hair and face the challenges and uncertainties with courage and confidence. Remember God is with you.

The good news is Abraham did have Isaac, Joseph became the Prime Minister of Egypt, and God blessed Job two-folds of what he had initially. If you read second portion of Psalm 73:16-28 regarding the wicked and arrogant,

When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin. How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors! As a dream when one awakes, so when you arise, O Lord, you will despise them as fantasies. When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you. Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.

Lastly, I want you to know, whatever adversities, misfortunes and unfair treatments you are facing, God is will you, He will repay you. He will avenge for you. He will restore what you have lost. He will bless you.

Continue to have faith and trust in God.

Bible is the Inspired Word of God

Biblical inspiration is defined as the work of the Holy Spirit by which, without setting aside their personalities and literary or human faculties, God so guided the authors of Scripture as to enable them to write exactly the words which convey His truth to men, and in doing so preserved their judgements from error in the original manuscripts. The Word of God as given to us in the Bible is a product of two free agents, human and divine. Through (fallible) human authors, God manifested the infallible and errorless writings, which convey His messages. A natural question is, why God chooses to have humans write the Bible; couldn't He write the Bible Himself much like what He did in inscribing the Ten Commandments on the tablets? Won't this be an easier way in preserving the accuracy of the Bible, instead of through the hands of fallible men? Although God is sovereign and can do anything by Himself, He chooses to have humans interact in His plan. This is one of the biggest differences between Christianity and other religions; with God reaching down to man, instead of man reaching up to Him. We have seen many examples in the Bible, which God chooses to have human interaction. The creation of the Written Word (Bible), the Living Word (Jesus), and Promised Word (Salvation) all share this characteristic.

After discussing why God chooses to have human involvement in the writing of the Bible, lets look at how inspiration is done. First of all, we learn from 2 Timothy 3:16 that the entire Bible is inspired by God, not just partially. It is an important concept, for if we choose and pick some parts of the Bible as inspired and others are not, then the entire Bible soon falls apart. Who has the authority to decide the extent of inspiration, but God Himself. And God made it very clear that all Scripture, is inspired by Him. Therefore those who preach partial and degrees of inspiration are playing God. Since God is truth (John 3:33, Romans 3:4), whats breathed out by God, must also be true (John 17:17) and infallible. The process of inspiration is described in 2Peter 1:21, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. All Scripture was regarded by the Jews as prophecies, that it did not originate from man, but came from God. The Holy Spirit inspired the prophets or apostles to mouth the truths, which was then recorded and superintended (or moved) by God to ensure that the messages were not diverted, misdirected or erred by the fallible author. The word moved in 2 Peter 1:21 is the same word used in Acts 27:15-17, meaning that the boat was 'moved' or 'borne' by the wind. While the crews (human authors) on the boat have full freedom of steering the boat, the motion of the boat is entirely borne by the wind (God) in a storm. The use of this word indicates that the Holy Spirit completely superintended the human author in the process of recording His words. It is important to point out that inspiration was not a mechanical dictation of the Scripture to the authors. The authors are free to express their emotions and style in the writing. It is also important to mention that only the Autographs (the original written documents by the biblical authors) are inspired.

Let's look at what the Bible says about itself. Throughout the Old Testament it was mentioned repeated that the Scripture is the word of God (Jer 1:9, 31:2; 2 Sam 23:2; 1 Kings 20:13). God also instructed His spokesmen to write the message down (Ex 17:14; Jer 30:2). Another strong proof for the inspiration of the Bible is the fulfillment of the prophecies, particularly those relating to Jesus (His birth- Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2; His crucifixion- Psalm 22:16-17, Isaiah 53:12; and His resurrection- Psalm 16:10, 22:22). Because of the fulfillment of these prophecies, Jesus proved that He is the Son of God, giving Him the infallible authority to claim the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible. Jesus taught that the entire Bible, both the Old Testament (Matt 21:13, 26:31, 5:18 and Luke 4:27) and the New Testaments (John 14:24, 16:12-13) is the infallible and inerrant word of God. Since the gospels give an accurate and reliable record of what He taught, it has been established that the entire Bible is really the errorless and authoritative word of God. Not only can we believe everything in it, but it demands our obedience.

The apostles also attested the inspiration of the Scripture, in both the Old Testament (Rom 3:2) and the New Testament (2 Peter 3:15,16). Moreover, they proclaimed their own writings as Gods words (1 Cor. 14:37), and their messages as Gods words (Gal 1:12; 1 Thess. 2:13).

Conclusions:

The entire Scripture is the inspired word of God because the Bible says so (2 Timothy 3:16). This is probably the strongest argument from a presuppositional point of view. However, most believers would rebuke that the authority of the Bible is what one tries to prove in the first place, so how can one use quotes from the Bible to sustain such a claim. In this case, the fulfillment of prophecies about Jesus, his birth, death and resurrection, proves the accuracy of the Bible and that Jesus is the Son of God, giving Him the authority to claim the inspiration and inerracy of the Bible (Matthew 21:13, Luke 4:27, John 14:24, 16:12,13). Both Jesus and the apostles proclaimed that the Bible is the inspired word of God. It is important to keep in mind that the Scripture is of Divine origin, written through man. Although the authors were free to use their own style and expression in the writing, God superintended so that the final product is inerrant. The entire Scripture is inspired by God, not just partially or in degree. Although most of the Scripture were verbally conveyed to Gods people through the prophets and apostles, only the Autographs are inspired. And because the Bible is inspired, it alone has the final authority.

Prayer – Start It Right!

Have you ever thought of how you started your prayer? I mean with what kind of mood, emotion and feeling? Many of us unknowingly started our prayer feeling condemned because of the sin we committed. We tend to focus more on our shortcoming, weakness, inability and limitation.

Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Psalm 100:1-2

With such a frame of mind, no wonder it’s difficult to enjoy praying. Such prayer will not build up faith but defeating spirit! You will become more and more inward looking and fearful. It will be difficult confronting any problem or challenge.

In order to experience the power of prayer, you must start it right! Do not start your prayer feeling guilty, condemned and defeated! Starts with enjoying God, sing praise to God, make a joyful shout to the Lord and acknowledge his power in your life and every circumstance.

It doesn’t mean that there is no place or no need to ask for forgiveness but after that you must move on to praise and worship God.

It also doesn’t mean that you are without sin and shortcoming but your focus should be on Him rather than ‘me’. Your focus should be on His-ability rather than my inability. Your focus should be on His strength rather than my weakness. Your focus should be on His possibility rather than my limitation. Your focus should be on faith rather than fear. I believe with such setup you are going to conquer every situation in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is what happened to King Jehoshaphat when he was attacked by the surrounding nations. He appointed people to sing to the Lord and to praise the beauty of His holiness. He started it right and the Lord set ambushes against his enemies and they were defeated.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.” Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20:21-23

I strongly believe that when King Jehoshaphat and the entire nation focus on God, faith is release. Miracle starts to happen. The battle belongs to the Lord. Victory is guaranteed and the enemies will be defeated.

You see, the devil wants you to focus on yourself. He knows that the moment you set your mind on yourself you will never walk in victory. What can you and I do to salvage the situation? Nothing other than to start it right! Honestly we have neither strength nor power. We can only sing praises to Him and call upon the Lord.

Explain GOD..

When given a third-grade homework assignment to “EXPLAIN GOD,” this is what 8-year-old, Danny Dutton of Chula Vista, CA, had to say. How many readers here could honestly do as well? Explain God– By Danny Dutton, 8 years old, Chula Vista, CA

One of God’s main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn’t make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way He doesn’t have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God’s second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn’t have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn’t go wasting His time by going over your Mom and Dad’s head asking for something they said you couldn’t have.

Atheists are people who don’t believe in God. I don’t think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren’t any who come to our church.

Jesus is God’s Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and people finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind, like His Father, and He told His Father that they didn’t know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said “O.K.” His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard work on earth so, He told Him He didn’t have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So He did. And now He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones He can take care of Himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important. You can pray anytime you want and, they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.

You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there’s anybody you want to make happy, it’s God. Don’t skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn’t come out at the beach until noon anyway.

If you don’t believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can’t go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He’s around you when you’re scared in the dark or when you can’t swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.

But… you shouldn’t just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

And… that’s why I believe in God.

————

Keep these thoughts with you throughout the coming years!

1. If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.

2. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.

3. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.

4. Whenever you want to talk, He’ll listen.

5. He could live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart.

6. What about the Christmas gift He sent you in Bethlehem, not to mention that Friday at Calvary.

Face it, He’s crazy about you.

Do You Believe in Easter??

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas. She was the patient of doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.

One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns. When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her. Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: “Hello, my name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?” Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved. Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly.

Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying, “My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?” Beverly said, “Why yes I do.” Edith said, “Well, what do you believe about Easter?” Beverly said, “Well, it’s all about egg hunts, going to church, and dressing up.” Edith kept pressing her about the real meaning of Easter, and finally led her to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Dr. Phillips said, “Beverly, don’t call Edith into the office quite yet. I believe there is another delivery taking place in the waiting room. After being called back in the doctor’s office, Edith sat down and when she took a look at the doctor she said, “Dr. Will, why are you so sad? Are you reading your Bible? Are you praying?” Dr. Phillips said gently, “Edith, I’m the doctor and you’re the patient.” With a heavy heart he said, “Your lab report came back and it says you have cancer, and Edith, you’re not going to live very long.” Edith said, “Why Will Phillips, shame on you. Why are you so sad? Do you think God makes mistakes? You have just told me I’m going to see my precious Lord Jesus, my husband, and my friends. You have just told me that I am going to celebrate Easter forever, and here you are having difficulty giving me my ticket!” Dr. Phillips thought to himself, “What a magnificent woman this Edith Burns is!” Edith continued coming to Dr. Phillips.

Christmas came and the office was closed through January 3rd. On the day the office opened, Edith did not show up. Later that afternoon, Edith called Dr. Phillips and said she would have to be moving her story to the hospital and said, “Will, I’m very near home, so would you make sure that they put women in here next to me in my room who need to know about Easter.” Well, they did just that and women began to come in and share that room with Edith. Many women were saved. Everybody on that floor from staff to patients were so excited about Edith, that they started calling her Edith Easter; that is everyone except Phyllis Cross, the head nurse.

Phyllis made it plain that she wanted nothing to do with Edith, because she was a “religious nut.” She had been a nurse in an army hospital. She had seen it all and heard it all. She was the original G.I. Jane. She had been married three times, she was hard, cold, and did everything by the book. One morning the two nurses who were to attend to Edith were sick. Edith had the flu and Phyllis Cross had to go in and give her a shot. When she walked in, Edith had a big smile on her face and said, “Phyllis, God loves you and I love you, and I have been praying for you.” Phyllis Cross said, “Well, you can quit praying for me, it won’t work. I’m not interested.” Edith said, “Well, I will pray – and I have asked God not to let me go home until you come into the family.”

Phyllis Cross said, “Then you will never die because that will never happen,” and curtly walked out of the room. Every day Phyllis Cross would walk into the room and Edith would say, “God loves you Phyllis and I love you, and I’m praying for you.” One day Phyllis Cross said she was literally drawn to Edith’s room like a magnet would draw iron. She sat down on the bed and Edith said, “I’m so glad you have come, because God told me that today is your special day.” Phyllis Cross said, “Edith, you have asked everybody here the question, ‘Do you believe in Easter?’ but you have never asked me.” Edith said, “Phyllis, I wanted to many times, but God told me to wait until you asked, and now that you have asked…” Edith Burns took her Bible and shared with Phyllis Cross the Easter Story of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Edith said, “Phyllis, do you believe in Easter? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is alive and that He wants to live in your heart?” Phyllis Cross said, “Oh, I want to believe that with all of my heart, and I do want Jesus in my life.” Right there, Phyllis Cross prayed and invited Jesus Christ into her heart. For the first time Phyllis Cross did not walk out of a hospital room, she was carried out on the wings of angels. Two days later, Phyllis Cross came in and Edith said, “Do you know what day it is?” Phyllis Cross said, “Why Edith, it’s Good Friday.” Edith said, “Oh, no, for you every day is Easter. Happy Easter Phyllis!”

Two days later, on Easter Sunday, Phyllis Cross came into work, did some of her duties and then went down to the flower shop and got some Easter lilies because she wanted to go up to see Edith and give her some Easter lilies and wish her a Happy Easter. When she walked into Edith’s room, Edith was in bed. That big black Bible was on her lap. Her hands were in that Bible. There was a sweet smile on her face. When Phyllis Cross went to pick up Edith’s hand, she realized Edith was dead. Her left hand was on John 14: “In my Father’s house are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

Her right hand was on Revelation 21:4, ” And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Phyllis Cross took one look at that dead body, and then lifted her face toward heaven and, with tears streaming down her cheeks, said, “Happy Easter, Edith – Happy Easter!” Phyllis Cross left Edith’s body, walked out of the room, and over to a table where two student nurses were sitting. She said, “My name is Phyllis Cross. Do you believe in Easter?”

What Will You Choose??

Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. Proverbs 8:10-12

Have you ever imagine God asking you the golden question – “ask whatever you want”. What will your answer be? God, I want a sports car. God, I want a bungalow. God, I want a good job. God, I want a husband. God, gives me lots of money. God, come and solves my problem. God…..

In fact, this was what God asked Solomon in the Old Testament. Guess what was Solomon’s answer? He said “God, give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong”. Wow… Solomon’s answer pleased God. So God said “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both riches and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”

There is an important message about Solomon’s answer which we can learn; ask God for “THE BLESSING” (which is the wisdom of God). With “THE BLESSING”, we are able to receive many other blessings (riches, honor and long life). That is why Solomon encouraged us to choose instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold and wisdom, which is more precious than rubies.

The Auction

The upstate NY man was rich in almost every way. His estate was worth millions. He owned houses, land, antiques and cattle. But though on the outside he had it all, he was very unhappy on the inside. His wife was growing old, and the couple was childless. He had always wanted a little boy to carry on the family legacy.

Miraculously, his wife became pregnant in her later years, and she gave birth to a little boy. The boy was severely handicapped, but the man loved him with his whole heart. When the boy was five, his mom died. The dad drew closer to his special son. At age 13, the boys’s birth defects cost him his life and the father died soon after from a broken heart.

The estate was auctioned before hundreds of bidders. The first item offered was a painting of the the boy. No one bid. They waited like vultures for the riches. Finally, the poor housemaid, who helped raise the boy, offered $5 for the picture and easily took the bid. To every-one’s shock, the auctioneer ripped a hand written will from the back of the picture. This is what it said: “To the person who thinks enough of my son to buy this painting, to this person I give my entire estate.”

The auction was over. The greedy crowd walked away in shock and dismay.

How many of us have sought after what we thought were true riches only to find out later that our Father was prepared to give us His entire estate if we had only sought after His Son alone?

No Pain?? No GAIN !!

I received this wonderful email that is worth sharing with everyone.

no_pain1 no_pain2 no_pain3 no_pain4 no_pain5 no_pain6 no_pain7 no_pain8 no_pain9 no_pain10 no_pain11 no_pain12 no_pain13 no_pain14

I guess many want lot of gains without any pain! But that’s not possible! There is no shortcut! It has to be through the hard way. So accept the pain, face it courageously and don’t look for excuses.

If you are facing some challenges, problems and difficulties, don’t give up. I’m pretty sure SUCCESS will come if you persevere and never give up. All the best.

Will You Live Today??

AddThis

by Michael Guernsey, age 14

I woke up today,
And I saw my Lord.
He was standing there
And He asked me this question.
“Will you live today
The way I would?
Or will you laugh at me
In front of the world?”

In the car today,
I turned on the radio.
I started dancing to
A pretty cool song.
Then my Lord again,
He asked me His question.

“Will you live today
The way Jesus would?
Or will you laugh at Him,
In front of the world.”

And at school today,
I found myself,
Lookin’ at those girls,
And thinkin’ those thoughts
Then my Lord again,
He asked me His question.

And at the movies,
Sitting in line.
I couldn’t decide whether
I really should watch it.
Then my Lord again,
He asked me His question.

Then my Lord, He said to me.
That, it’s hard to live like He would.
But He said, “it’s worth all the pain,
For in heaven, you’ll receive your reward.”

Playerlessness

AddThis

Can you remember Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling (Matthew 21:12-13)? He overturned the tables of money changer and benches of those selling doves.

The situation was then intense! Those at the temple probably were wondering what Jesus was up to. He was angry, upset and disappointed. He was so emotionally charged up that he overturned everything and drove the people out of the temple area

Why was Jesus so angry? I think the answer is straight forward, Jesus said “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.” Meaning the temple was not a place of prayer anymore but business.

The people have made the temple a place of buying and selling. There were so many happenings, activities, business transactions but NOT prayer taking place in the temple. The temple has lost each originally purpose of existence – a place of prayer. That is why Jesus was so angry and upset.

This incident speaks volume of our current situation – prayerlessness. The bible said, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

Do we allow too much things to pack our body – temple of the Holy Spirit? We are living in a very busy, hectic and fast-moving world. There are so many things in our families, works, ministry and church that needed our attention and concentration. Indeed, lots of things to solve and do but be careful ya!

Unknowingly, the enemy uses all these to lead the Christian and above all the minister to NEGLECT prayer. No time to pray! There are many urgent and pressing things to do! Well, do not get me wrong! I am not asking you not to handle them but I am saying you should not allow these things to take away your time to pray.

Even if you find some time to pray in the midst of your busyness, the enemy will still find his way to hinder you. Perhaps by temptation to postpone, by bringing in wandering thoughts and all sorts of distractions, through unbelief and hopelessness.

Coming back to the bible verses where Jesus was at the temple, how can you convert your life of prayerlessness to prayerfulness? Like Jesus, starts to see your temple as a house of prayer not a den of robbers. Regard this as the utmost important.

Next, drive out and overturn unnecessary activities, job responsibilities and events so that you have time to pray. Do a housekeeping also. Remove away unholy thoughts, ties and habits so that nothing can hinder your intimate relationship with God.

Pray, pray and pray. Remember, God’s child can conquer everything by prayer and the enemy will try to conquer God’s child by removing the most potent weapon on hand.

I Shall Not Die But Live

Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. Psalms 103:2-3

Have you been diagnosed with some incurable disease and were given not years, not months but weeks to live? Are you losing weight and your skin is getting crumple and yellow? Are you losing your appetite and getting extremely weak? Are you afraid of sleeping and never wake up?

Have you have been visiting many different hospitals and seeing countless of doctors? Have you been swallowing bags of medicine pills and now the nurses and doctors can’t find any vein available to draw blood!

Are you losing hope in life, staring at the calendar and numbering your days? Please if the above is what you are facing now…take courage; it is not by coincidence you stumble upon this article.

I know medical science had reached its limit; the best doctor can’t do anything possible to cure you but don’t give up, don’t lose hope, don’t lose faith, you can call upon the creator, the healer and the one who give us life, Jesus.

If you want to live, from this moment, I want you to stop thinking about dying, stop numbering your days and stop thinking about what you cannot do!

Right now, close your eyes, stop thinking about any other thing, next open your eyes and declare it boldly; shout three times louder, Psalms 118:17.

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

Please, this is not some form of chanting or trying to phyco yourself. By saying out loud is to tell yourself to believe in God. Let the Word of God internalized, making it personal to you.

I know the doctor has given up hope on your case, I know no medicine can salvage your condition and I know you are waiting for your days. But please, we serve a supernatural God, He is our Healer, He is our deliverer. Appeal to Him, call upon Him, and cry to Jesus.

Healing starts from your mind. I know you may think it’s easier for me to say than to experience? Do you understand my pain and suffering? Do you know the trouble I am going through?

I may not one hundred percent understand your feeling and condition but believe me God knows! As I said it’s not by coincidence you stumble upon this article, you must braze yourself up and starts believing God can turn your situation upside down.

The choice is yours, you must make a decision. I sincerely and truly believe you will not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord, amen.

In Matthew 9, verse 18, you see a ruler coming to Jesus saying, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” What? Die already and you want Jesus to go?

But look at Jesus, he got up and went with the ruler. The ruler did not give up hope on her daughter. He must be thinking, “As long as I get Jesus to put his hand on my daughter, she will get well, she will live”, “As long as I get Jesus to put his hand on my daughter, she will get well, she will live”, “As long as I get Jesus…”

Wow! Look at the simple faith of the ruler, “As long as I get Jesus to put his hand on my daughter”. This is what you need to do now, picture Jesus placing his hand on you and you will recover, you will be cured and you be healed, amen.

This is something powerful; I don’t want you to miss it! Picture yourself getting better each day, resuming all your daily activities, going to work, running errands, dining with friends, going shopping, playing with your children, going to church and many many more. Starts seeing the right things! Picture yourself getting well.

The ruler did not give up even though his daughter was DEAD. The ruler did not give up even though the white clothe had covered his daughter face. The ruler did not give up even though the funeral was half way in progress. The ruler did not give up. Is your condition worse than his?

And if the ruler did not give up, why should you? Please, I am not speaking arrogantly without understanding your pains and suffering but I only hope and pray that you will not give up and experience the healing power of God in your life, amen.

Next, Jesus went to the ruler’s house and there were lots of people. But look at what Jesus say in verse 24, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” Hahaha! Everyone laughed at Jesus. You must be crazy, this girl is dead and now you are saying she is asleep. Jesus, you must be joking!

And when Jesus took the girl by the hand, she got up. Hallelujah, praise the Lord! Your sicknesses is only temporal, your pain and suffering is only temporal, you are only asleep! You are not dead! It’s not the end yet!

You must change your mentality! Like Jesus, you must picture yourself as only asleep not dead! You will not die; you will live to declare the works of the Lord. Healing starts from your mind.

Do not bother about what others said, do not bother by the doctor’s report, do not bother about the condition of your health, do not bother about what you cannot do BUT starts to picture, meditate and declare the healing of God in your life every moment, everyday and all the time.

Let me end with 3 John 2, dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

7 Ways To Be Excited About Growing

“How many of you are commited to grow?” A few hands go up. The rest have other things they are commited to… notably their jobs, their family, their mortgage, their ministry and their spouse. “Honestly, of you who are commited to grow, how many of you are excited about it?” Of the few hands up, only 1 or 2 remains. Reason could be while we are commited to grow, we do not take action to. When we don’t act upon our conviction and belief, we will get bore to death our dear precious life.

Here are a few suggestions how to be commited to grow and be excited about it.

1. Read a leadership book a month. Why leadership? Because whether we like it or not, we are leading others. Leading is influencing anyone whose path crossed yours. You can do it positively in a conscious way or negative unconsciously. Leadership books help us consciously and positively influence. Most other books leave us entertained and with good knowledge that can ‘puffed us up’ if we are not careful. Leadership skill is applicable to everyone from highest of employer to the lowest of employee.

2. Learn something everyday and log that insight. You are only excited about learning when it is concrete … so write it down, think about it, find ways to apply it. If you can’t tell yourself what you learned today, you aren’t going to be excited about learning and will one day (very soon I think) be not very committed to it.

3. Do, do, do! Don’t talk more than do! Doing is good for growth because we are human being and that just means we will DEFINITELY mess up. I’m 100% sure of that. But that mess or failure is our only opportunity to grow so we should commit to doing and hence risk failing. That’s the bottom line. So do yourself a favour and work towards growth, gain and improvement in all areas of your life. And we are going to fail and that failure is exactly what we need to develop patience, perseverance, character and wealth of understanding. Show me a successful person and I’ll show you much hardships and trials.

4. Pray and trust the one who created you! Don’t be a nut. Don’t succeed without God. Don’t minister, love and give by yourself. Know that you are an instrument of blessing. Know you have nothing you can do yourself! You are doing it because He loves you so much to bestow talents for you to. Expect that phrase ”Good and faithful servant” to be said to you when you die. Life and hardship become sweet. It’s not what you gain when you grow that is important, it is what you become (ie ‘faithful’) that is more valuable.

5. Don’t blame anyone. If you are not growing, don’t blame anyone. People are not for you to blame. They are for you to be good friends with. Blame yourself, that’s the best way to grow and an excellent way to get excited about growing.

6. Ask your spouse if you are a good husband/wife. Or ask your employee, am I a good employer …. or your boss, am I a good worker…or your friend, am I a good friend… They will most likely say no if you allow them to be honest and that is a sure way to get yourself genuinely excited about growing. Either that or it gets you agitated about that person….. which comes to my last suggestion…

7. Choose to be excited rather than agitated.

God Always Has A Purpose

The brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn , arrived in early October excited about their opportunities.

When they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.

They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc, and on December 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished.

On December 19 a terrible tempest – a driving rainstorm – hit the area and lasted for two days.

On the 21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.

The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone the Christmas Eve service, headed home.

On the way he noticed that a local business was having a flea market type sale for charity, so he stepped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the center. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.

By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus. She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later.

She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor , while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area.

Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet.. “Pastor,” she asked, “where did you get that tablecloth?” The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria .

The woman could hardly believe it, as the pastor told how he had just gotten the Tablecloth. The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria. When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. he was captured, sent to prison and never saw her husband or her home
again.

The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home; that was the least he could do. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a housecleaning job.

What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return. One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn’t leaving.

The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria before the war and how could there be two tablecloths so much alike.

He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison. He never saw his wife or his home again all the 35 years in between.

The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier.

He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman’s apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

Start SMALL If You Want To Be BIG!

I had the privilege to attend a conference about couple of months back at home. Many different speakers were invited to share on this 2-day conference covering diverse topics. What caught me most was a topic covered by a Principal Consultant from Franklin Covey, Inc. who spoke on “Leadership Greatness – The 8th Habit Way”. His job was basically to motivate and help us find our voice to be great leaders and subsequently to inspire others to find theirs.

Finding our own voice itself was never an easy task and what more to subsequently inspire others find theirs. Indeed, to ignite the talent a passion of others, we ourselves must be fully engaged. Imagine the process of lighting a fire; it merely takes one small matchstick to start a huge fire. I especially like it when the speaker shares that the key to being BIG is to start doing small things!

Many of us do agree that at one stage we did ever dream of becoming a person that could bring changes both to ourselves and to our surroundings. Unfortunately, due to certain limitations within us, it never did happen. To understand what the speaker meant when he said we need to start by doing small things first, he used an illustration by making reference to a “Trim-Tab”. For me it was a new word.

What exactly is a Trim-Tab? A Trim-Tab is a small flap fitted to the end of a ship rudder. Though small, it is so powerful that by using it you can change the direction of a 175,000 ton Queen Mary vessel as big as the Empire States building. To move a rudder of the ship, you will need a Trim-Tab to set the process in motion.

Translated into management theory, a Trim-Tab is someone who takes responsibility for what he or she does within the space of his or her constraints. That makes it possible for him or her to create more space as time goes by and act as an example to others. They are basically people who are able to make a difference.

This reminds me of our Christ Jesus who was in the form of God, made himself nothing taking the form of a servant being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8).

Though, He was God and BIG, Jesus made himself SMALL by first becoming an ordinary men just like you and me to go through what we had to go through – all the troubles, pain, sufferings and difficulties on earth. He came to serve and help people by healing the sick, the blind and feed the thousands.

He taught his people how to live life abundantly and meaningfully. Though performed many miracles to help the people, his authority was still questioned, even arrested and eventually He was crucified. Through His death and resurrection on the 3rd day though, He had brought hope to people all over the world up till today and most importantly helped us gain our precious salvation, which can never be bought or earned.

Don’t think that only Jesus could accomplish all these works that we had just mentioned as Jesus himself had promised us in John 14:12 that “whoever has faith in Him will do what He had been doing and will even do greater things”.

This simply mean that you and I can still make a difference when we choose to start small that is by following and emulating Jesus footsteps. We will be able to change our surroundings by making an impact through touching and changing people’s life when we use Christ’s hand, which acts like a Trim-Tab in us.

There was once a principal who was relocated to a school in New York to help out the students there who weren’t studying and the teachers who were practically in the brink of giving up their jobs. One day while walking pass a corridor, she realized that there was a strong foul smell.

She decided to investigate and eventually found out that it came from a nearby toilet. She summoned the cleaner and asked him why it was so smelly and the cleaner told her that it was from the stains in the ceiling floors. She asked if they could be scrubbed off and the cleaner answered no as the stains had been there for ages. Instead of arguing or firing the cleaner, she promptly requested for a pail of warm water and a scrub.

Slowly, she knelt down and begins to scrub the floor while the cleaner watched from afar. At the end of the day, she walked to the cleaner and asked if it was still smelly and he answered no, not anymore. The principal even bought a washing machine and together with a teacher had taken turns to wash the cloths of the poor students so that they could have clean clothes to wear after school.

The teachers saw what the principal did and were inspired by her actions while her caring heart overwhelmed the students. In a short time and because she had chose to do the little SMALL things first, the principal had managed to turn the school around. Students were now eager to come to school and teachers and all other workers were all happily enjoying their work.

Most of us whether in work, school, home or in church tend to despise doing things which we think do not fit our status when given the task and what more volunteer. Washing the plates at home, cleaning the toilet in church or copying documents in office for someone may seem like a low-level job but they are just one of the smaller things that we need to do before we could begin to impact others.

Like a Trim-Tab that could change the direction of the biggest ship in the ocean, let us start SMALL as small things overtime can be an impact! As the word says in Matthew 20:26-27 “ But whoever would be great among you must be your servant and whoever would be first among you must be your slave” Lastly, I will live you with a description of this special person who had impact the world up till today to think about. God Bless!

Who Is He?

He had no servant, but they called HIM MASTER
He had no degree but they called HIM TEACHER
He had no medicines but they called HIM HEALER
He had no Army but Kings feared HIM.
He won no Military Battles but HE CONQUERED THE WORLD
He committed no crime but they Crucified HIM
He was buried in a tomb but is ALIVE TODAY.
He is Humble but will ALWAYS be EXALTED
HIS name is JESUS.
HE is our HOPE and GUIDE.

I Belong To Jesus

Kaka ’s life story

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: Chris Tomlin’s “God of This City”

"We were recently in Belfast, Northern Ireland for a concert. The night consisted of a great line-up of worship bands. One of the bands that night was local, and they were calledBluetree. Daniel was thankfully paying close attention when they went into this song, “God of This City.” He immediately came to me and said that I had to hear it. When I did hear it, I knew that it was a timely song and that it would be perfect for the journey we were about to undertake with Passion. And after hearing how the boys of Bluetree wrote the song, it is no wonder why this song is full of power. Turns out the song was written in a bar/brothel in Padia, Thailand. When the owner of the bar found out the lads were a band, he asked if they wanted to play, and the Bluetree boys were up for it. Now that’s worship leading! Proclaiming the grace of God in the middle of a brothel… Sounds a lot like Jesus to me. Aaron Boyd of Bluetree told me that in the middle of their set of songs, this song just spontaneously birthed. God put this powerful lyric on their lips in that moment…“greater things have yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this city.” They graciously allowed me to record it, and it became the title track to the current Passion CD and the name of our 17-city Passion World Tour. What a statement to proclaim in the cities of the world!” –Chris Tomlin

The Death Of JESUS

At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to death penalty.

That was then the ‘worst’ death. Only the worst criminals could die like Jesus. And with Jesus things were worst, because not all the criminals condemned to death could receive nails on their hands and feet.

Of course, nails… Big nails! Each was 15 – 20 cm long, with a point of 6 cm. Another point was sharp.

The nails were craved into the pulses, and not into the palms, as we are used to hear. In the pulse, there’s a tendon which extends till the shoulder, and when the nails were being hammered, that tendon broke, obliging Jesus to reinforce all the muscles of his back, so that he could breath as He was loosing all the air from his lungs.

In this way, He was forced to support Himself onto the nail craved in his feet, which was bigger than those craved into his pulses, for both feet were craved together. And, as his feet could not endure for long time without tearing, Jesus was forced to alternate that ‘cycle’ so that He could breath.

Jesus endured that reality over 3 hours. Yes, over 3 hours! Long time, isn’t it? Few minutes before He died, Jesus was not bleeding anymore. He was simply pouring water from his cuts and holes.

When we imagine Him injured, we only picture Him with injuries, but it is not enough; His wounds were true holes, made in his body.

He had no more blood to bleed, He only poured water. Human body is composed by near 3.5 litres of blood (for adult).

Jesus poured all 3.5 litres of his blood; He had three nails hammered into his members; a crown of thorns on his had and, beyond that, a Roman soldier who nailed a spear into his chest.

All these without mentioning the humiliation He passed after carrying his own cross for almost 2 kilometres, while the crowd spat on his face and throwed stones (the cross was almost 30 kg of weight, only for its higher part, where his hands were nailed).

Jesus had to pass all this experience, so that you can have free access to God. So that your sins could be ‘washed’. All of them, with no exception! Don’t ignore this situation. HE DIED FOR YOU!. For you, who now read this story.

He died for you! It is easy to pass jokes or foolish photos by e-mail, but when it comes to God, sometimes you feel ashamed to forward to others because you are worried on what they may think about your moral.

Accept the reality, the truth that JESUS IS THE ONLY SALVATION FOR THE WORLD.

God has plans for you, show all your friends what He experienced to save you. Now think on this! May God bless your life!

Jesus is my best friend

When I was younger my family did not go to church often. I did not know much about Jesus or religon. If the question of “What religon are you” came up I never knew what to say. As I got older I began to wonder about Jesus and God.

I had a lot of questions about life and no one really had any good answers. I started to think a lot of things were pointless and I began to get hopeless. I began to think about God and Jesus and wondered if it was real.

One night I asked Jesus into my life because I remember hearing someone say that Jesus is always knocking waiting for you to open the door. I did not know the right prayer so I think I told him to kick the door down and help me or something like that.

Shortly after I asked Jesus into my life, Jesus came to me in one of my dreams. One night I was extremely depressed and I had never been that depreesed before. I really felt worthless and hopeless.

Jesus came in my dream and told me to put my hands in the air and I did not know why, but I did it anyway. It felt so great that I even did the dance called walking like a egyptian, it was a dance when I was a kid.

I started to burst out laughing and I had not laughed like that in years it was great. Jesus still comes to me in my dreams and it is always unexpected. That is his style. I think it is cool because it gets real reactions and answers from you.

Since I have known Jesus life has felt like a new reality. I don’t depend on the things I used to for happiness. All I need is Jesus. Jesus sends the right people into your life and you are always provided for. All you have to do is trust Jesus and have Faith.

I have learned a lot from Jesus he is a great teacher, because he teaches you with your own life. I know everything in the bible is true and I enjoy reading the bible as often as I can. I think a lot of it is very interesting and cool to read. It is better than the books we read in school.

I remember my life before I knew Jesus and I am never going back to that. Nothing in this world means anything with out Jesus with you. I could be homeless living under a bridge and it would not matter as long as Jesus is with me.

I am sure I’d whine a little but Jesus would cheer me up. If people are feeling hopeless they should ask Jesus into their life and I garuntee they won’t be let down.

I am a Christian forever. Jesus is my best friend.

Science vs GOD

‘Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ.’ The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.

‘You’re a Christian, aren’t you, son?’

‘Yes sir,’ the student says.

‘So you believe in God?’

‘Absolutely. ‘

‘Is God good?’

‘Sure! God’s good.’

‘Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?’

‘Yes.’

‘Are you good or evil?’

‘The Bible says I’m evil.’

The professor grins knowingly. ‘Aha! The Bible!’ He considers for a moment. ‘Here’s one for you. Let’s say there’s a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?’

‘Yes sir, I would.’

‘So you’re good…!’

‘I wouldn’t say that.’

‘But why not say that? You’d help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn’t.’

‘The student does not answer, so the professor continues. ‘He doesn’t, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?’

The student remains silent.

‘No, you can’t, can you?’ the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

‘Let’s start again, young fella Is God good?’

‘Er…yes,’ the student says.

‘Is Satan good?’

The student doesn’t hesitate on this one. ‘No.’

‘Then where does Satan come from?’

The student : ‘From…God. .’

‘That’s right. God made Satan, didn’t he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?’

‘Yes, sir.’

‘Evil’s everywhere, isn’t it? And God did make everything, correct?’

‘Yes.’

‘So who created evil?’ The professor continued, ‘If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil.’

Without allowing the student to answer, the professor continues: ‘Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?’

The student: ‘Yes.’

‘So who created them?’

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question. ‘Who created them? There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized.

‘Tell me,’ he continues onto another student. ‘Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?’

The student’s voice is confident: ‘Yes, professor, I do.’

The old man stops pacing. ‘Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?’

‘No sir. I’ve never seen Him’

”Then tell us if you’ve ever heard your Jesus?’

‘No, sir, I have not.’

‘Have you ever actually felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelled your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?’

‘No, sir, I’m afraid I haven’t.’

‘Yet you still believe in him?’

‘Yes.’

‘According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?’

thing,’ the student replies. ‘I only have my faith.’

‘Yes, faith,’ the professor repeats. ‘And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith.’

The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own. ‘Professor, is there such thing as heat?’

‘Yes,’ the professor replies. ”There’s heat.’

‘And is there such a thing as cold?’

‘Yes, son, there’s cold too.’

‘No sir, there isn’t.’

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain.

‘You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don’t have anything called ‘cold’. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.’

Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

‘What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?’

‘Yes,’ the professor replies without hesitation. ‘What is night if it isn’t darkness?’

‘You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it’s called darkness, isn’t it? That’s the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn’t. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?’

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester. ‘So what point are you making, young man?’

‘Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.’

The professor’s face cannot hide his surprise this time. ‘Flawed? Can you explain how?’

‘You are working on the premise of duality,’ the student explains. ‘You argue that there is life and then there’s death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it.’

‘Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?’

‘If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do’

‘Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?’

The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.

‘Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?’

The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.

‘To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean.’

The student looks around the room. ‘Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor’s brain?’ The class breaks out into laughter.

‘Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor’s brain, felt the professor’s brain, touched or smelled the professor’s brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?’

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable.

Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. ‘I guess you’ll have to take them on faith.’

‘Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life,’ the student continues. ‘Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?’

Now uncertain, the professor responds, ‘Of course, there is. We see it everyday. It is in the daily example of man’s inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.’

To this the student replied, ‘Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God’s love present in his heart. It’s like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.’

The professor sat down.
